THEIR HOMELAND
The student will learn about the five tribes and their homeland. They will be taught about their customs and even some of the indian dishes and celebrations.


INDIAN REMOVAL
Students will be taught about Indian Removal Act. How the tribes were forced to leave their homelands and the reasons why they were forced to do this. All of the five civilized tribes owned slaves. The slaves and other free Blacks also traveled on the Trail of Tears during the Indian Removal to go to Indian Territory.
THE CIVILIZED TRIBES
In this lesson we discuss some of the diseases the tribes had to endure. We also discuss efforts of europeans to "civilize" the native tribes by transforming their appearance, religious beliefs and education.


CAESAR BRUNER BAND OF THE SEMINOLE NATION OF OKLAHOMA
Learn about important Black leaders in the Seminole tribe. Caesar Bruner (pictured left) was such a significant part of the tribe he is honored still today. Two of the fourteen bands are named after two important Black leaders of the tribe Caesar Bruner and Dosar Barkus. The bands collectively make all decisions concerning the tribe.
FREEDMEN TODAY
Student's will learn about the Freedmen today and the many challenges they face. The Treaties of 1866 are discussed and the Freedmen's fight on their path for equality and recognition.
